This pack contains one copy of Maths Aotearoa 1a Teacher Book and one set of Maths Aotearoa 1a Activity Cards.

Maths Aotearoa for the New Zealand Curriculum

Maths Aotearoa Level 1 is divided into two Teacher Books and Activity Card Packs, 1a followed by 1b.  The programme of work covers Level 1 requirements of the Mathematics and Statistics learning area in the New Zealand curriculum.

Level 1a Teacher Book provides:

• all the tools to plan a mathematics programme to meet the needs of all students working at early to mid-level 1. It is set out in four large blocks of learning to emphasise the connections between the strands of mathematics. 
• teachers with the understanding of which concepts students are beginning to develop and the key knowledge they are building.
• suggested teaching activities, links to the Activity Cards and Wilkie Way resources, some blackline masters resource masters and worksheets. 
• a record sheet to track individual students’ progress
• answers to each independent Activity Card.

Level 1a Activity Cards

One hundred Activity Cards provide activities for students working across all the strands at early to mid-level 1: Number and Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Statistics. Many of the activities are practical activities and can be used multiple times. Some cards have activities on both sides of the card and some cards have teacher information on the reverse of the activity to guide the teacher in developing the mathematics from the activity. This is especially useful in a play-based classroom environment.
